4 Reasons Why You Should Read The Hunger Games

Hey you ravenous bookworms- maybe i should call you Mythons- here are 5 reasons why the Hunger Games should be on your list of to-read. Or reread if you already have read it.

  1. The Hunger Games is really exciting

Who wouldn't want a book that is exciting to read and filled with suspense at every turn? The Hunger Games does both. The protagonist, Katniss, is constantly faced with difficult situations that she must wriggle out of. Not to mention, the stakes are ridiculously high, which not only builds suspense to extreme levels but will really get you engaged in the book. As bookworms, we cannot live off of nice, soft stories for the rest of our lives. We need the danger and hardship our favorite characters are put through to feed our desires.

2. The Hunger Games has a lot of really interesting, fully-developed characters

Nowadays, it can sometimes be difficult to come across a book that is really well-written. The type that makes the characters truly seem human- real. These types of novels are usually the most renowned and the most captivating reads; the Hunger Games is one such novel. If the characters seem realistic, then you are more likely to relate to them and therefore understand and empathize with them. These are the building blocks for a character-reader relationship. Here's a poll for the ones that have already read the book: would you have empathized with Katniss and Peeta more or less if they hadn't shared the bread anecdote? (You know what I'm talking about) Of course, you wouldn't be able to understand their relationship as well and consequently you wouldn't have been as interested in them. Full and well-developed characters are incumbent in a novel and the Hunger Games definitely lives up to the expectation.

3. The Hunger Games is just common knowledge at this point and if you haven't read it then you've probably been living UNDER A R-

Anyways; the Hunger Games is a very popular novel which everyone seems to have read. At this point, it's certainly on its way to becoming a classic which everyone would know about. Not to mention that the movies are incredibly popular and Jennifer Lawrence was the actress that played Katniss. If its good enough for Jennifer Lawrence, its good enough for you.

4. The Hunger Games provides an interesting perspective on real world issues

The Hunger Games has many themes which can easily translate to real life. For example, the theme of inequality is very rife in the novel: inequality between districts, between the Capitol and the Districts, the actual hunger games etc. But predominantly, it strikes a conversation about poverty, supremacy, tyranny, dehumanization, manslaughter. These are all incredibly interesting topics which are deeply explored in the novel.
